Ligue 1 side Toulouse this morning confirmed the departure of 32-year-old Cameroonian international defensive midfielder Stéphane Mbia by mutual agreement, following rumours of a bust up between the player and manager Alain Casanova.
Speaking to La Dépeche, Mbia had the following to say:
“I am sorry to the fans, but I wanted to quit Toulouse. I had the possibility to terminate my contract in January and I have done that.”
It is understood that Mbia’s frustrations with Casanova centred around his handling of the younger players in the squad and his tactical decisions.
Mbia, who officially denies this version of events, played just 5 times in Ligue 1 for Toulouse after joining last summer.
It is unlikely that the player’s career will end here; he has received approaches in recent weeks from Dubai, Spain and Italy.
