Water Scarcity In Maharashtra Forces Children To Take Train To Fetch Water For Their Families

For many children in India, who live in remote villages suffering from water scarcity, there’s little time to play. After school, they mostly spend time fetching clean drinking water for the family.

Their families are among the poorest in the hamlet of Mukundwadi, in the western state of Maharashtra, a village that has suffered back-to-back droughts.

In many parts of the country, abundant rainfall created flood-like situation, but rainfall in the region around Mukundwadi has been 14 per cent below average this year and aquifers and borewells are dry.
