In an interesting development, it looks like Renee Young will be making her way to the kingdom of Saudi Arabia this Friday to take part in the hugely controversial WWE Crown Jewel pay-per-view event.
Ryan Satin of Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that WWE has actually been working on plans for Renee to be a part of the event since September, when she became the first woman in history to become a full-time member of the Monday Night Raw commentary team.
This is an interesting move considering all the current political issues surrounding Crown Jewel, let alone the nation’s incredibly strict laws against women, and it comes on the heels of the news that both John Cena and Daniel Bryan have refused to compete in Saudi Arabia.
How Renee is implemented as a member of the commentary team could be potentially ground-breaking for Saudi culture. The country still has a rigid segregation law in place that prohibits men and women from spending time together both in public spaces, and in places of employment – in most cases.
Just last month, a male hotel worker was arrested after posting a video online showing him eating breakfast and laughing with a woman, who was covered from head-to-toe.
