Piacenza in shape

Piacenza gets closer to the leader of italian championship, Trento. Trento is in Doha for the World Club Championships. Forli surprisingly upset Monza.

COPRATLANTIDE PIACENZA – MARMI LANZA VERONA 3:0
Piacenza grabbed a convincing win at home against Verona. Piacenza did everything well, putting pressure on the opponent thanks to a constantly accurate serve and an excellent work at the net. There were minutes at the end of sets for Sequeira and Grassano, who allowed Zlatanov and Marshall to rest for a few points, but most importantly it enabled the coach to try something different. Verona could not cope with Piacenza’s character, it seemed to put its head down at times, there might be a difference of level technically but it never threatened the hosts. Yet another great game for Zlatanov: 4 aces in the first set and the MVP award in the end.

Novica Bjelica (Copratlantide Piacenza): “It was important to get the win after the failure of the last home games. We had a good game and managed to put into practice what the coach wanted, and what we had done during the week in training”.

LUBE BANCA MARCHE MACERATA – ANDREOLI LATINA 3:1
Macerata made a special welcome to its ex players, now in Latina, but friendship was out of it on court. Macerata won 3:1, despite not playing at its best during the whole game. The first two sets were one-way traffic with Smerilli libero for the injured Corsano. An excellent serve, the ability of the spikers and the many mistakes of the guests made it all easy for Macerata. The third set was a different story, though. Vujevic came on and made a difference, it allowed the middleblockers to be served more regularly. Snippe and Spairani were the key men when the set was on the line. Latina kept the momentum and was close to a tie-break at 23.19 up. Rayamaekers and Omrcen had others ideas: The first helped to tie it and the second scored three points to seal it.

SISLEY TREVISO – ARAN CUCINE ABRUZZO PINETO 3:1
Rested in the last round, Treviso got back in action the best possible way, beating Pineto (which won at the Palaverde last season) and moving up the table again. The first two sets were perfect, Pineto showed pride in the third and made it tough in the fourth too for the hosts. Treviso eventually sealed it thanks to the determination of Fei and an excellent Papi, MVP of the game.

RPA-LUIGIBACCHI.IT PERUGIA – ESSE-TI CARILO LORETO 3:0
Perugia swept Loreto. Diachkov was back on the bench following the traffic accident in which he was involved with teammate Van Dijk, still in hospital. MVP: Cristian Savani.

Jan Stokr (RPA- LuigiBacchi.it Perugia): “We always start the sets poorly, but fortunately we manage to improve as time goes by. Sintini distribute a lot to the centers and spikers, which allow us to attack from different angles. I’m happy for me too, because  I finally managed to do four blocks, it’s an area where I had not been at my best yet”.

TONNO CALLIPO VIBO VALENTIA – PRISMA TARANTO 3:0
A super performance from Vibo Valentia had Taranto on their knees, as German Bjorn Andrae shined and seemed to back at the level he was a month ago. The ‘4’ did just about everything, attempting many spikes, with top class hits. Captain Vicenzo Simeonov was back after two months out. With him on court, it’s a different story. Besides, Gonzalez has been brilliant in guiding his men with his usual shrewdness.

ACQUA PARADISO MONZA – YOGA FORLI 2:3
Monza was defeated at the tie-break against a Forli team always focused on the job in hand, even in the worst spells. Monza failed to seal the fourth set when they were four points ahead.

Manuel Coscione (Yoga Forlě): “These are two golden points, and away from home as well. It was not easy to win in Monza but we played hard all the way, we finally managed to play with fighting spirit”.
