Real Madrid star wants regular football or a transfer away in January

One of Real Madrid’s most impressive players this season will reportedly ask for a transfer away from the Bernabeu in January if he’s not playing regular football.

According to a report from ESPN FC, talented midfielder Marcos Llorente will ask for a move away from Los Blancos in January if he isn’t playing regularly for the Spanish giants.

It may come as a surprise to Madrid fans that Llorente could be seeking a move away considering that the 23-year-old has started each of Madrid’s last six games.

Llorente has managed to make an instant impact for Madrid. The side’s defence have significantly improved since the academy graduate was brought into the midfield.

Llorente has been given the chance to impress under Santiago Solari since Brazilian anchor man Casemiro has been sidelined with an injury, although it seems that Llorente is fearing for his future with Casemiro nearing a return for Los Blancos.

Llorente’s frustrations could stem from the fact that he only played once in the first four months of the season before Casemiro was injured.

ESPN also highlighted that European giants; Arsenal, Liverpool, Roma and Napoli have all been linked with the defensive midfielder in recent months.

Llorente certainly wouldn’t consider leaving Madrid if his career wasn’t on the line – after all Madrid is in the midfielder’s blood.

Llorente’s father – Paco – represented Madrid over 100 times during a 7-year spell with the club. Llorente is also the great-nephew of one of Real Madrid’s greatest players of all time – Francisco Gento.

Gento is regarded as one of the best players in the world of his generation. The Spanish winger won a record six European Cups with Los Blancos during a decade of dominance from the mid 50s to the mid 60s.

Jordan Spieth, Dustin Johnson produce clutch putting display at Northern Trust

Are you entertained? Sure. Are you surprised?

Of course not.

Duking it out with Dustin Johnson for The Northern Trust win, Johnson and Spieth each made par on the 17th hole. DJ’s nice bunker shot earned him an easy putt. Spieth, on the other hand, was in danger of bogeying.

Then, Spieth sank this beauty from 18 feet. As usual, he made it look easy.

UPDATE:

It's not all about Spieth. On the 18th hole, Johnson drained a putt that may have been even more clutch:

When two of the game's best go head-to-head, awesome stuff is bound to happen.

Arsenal step up transfer pursuit of ideal Mesut Ozil replacement with £72million asking price

Arsenal have reportedly stepped up their interest in Real Madrid playmaker Isco in the last few days as manager Unai Emery is a big fan.

This rumour from Diario Gol follows other similar stories recently, with the timing making sense as Mesut Ozil falls out of favour at the Emirates Stadium.

The former Germany international’s future at Arsenal is in some doubt, with the Independent even claiming the Gunners could try swapping him for Isco.

The latest from Diario Gol is that Real are considering selling the unsettled star if they receive an offer of around £72million, with Arsenal currently showing the most interest.

Gooners would surely be pretty happy with this, even if it’s not entirely clear why Emery continues to freeze Ozil out.

Arsenal misfit urged to leave Gunners amid Unai Emery struggles

Arsenal midfielder Mohamed Elneny has been urged to leave the club, even on a loan move, by his former coach Hamdy Nouh.

It’s been a struggle for the 26-year-old so far this season, as he has been limited to just seven appearances in all competitions, with just one of those coming in the Premier League.

After his appointment this past summer, Unai Emery clearly has his own ideas for his midfield having brought in Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi, and that in turn has pushed Elneny down the pecking order.

That will be a concern for him moving forward, not only in terms of his lack of playing time and importance to Arsenal, but also with regards to his hopes of keeping his place in future Egypt squads.

That is arguably where Nouh’s concerns lie for the most part, and he believes that Elneny may well have to consider an exit from the Emirates for the good of his own career if he can’t change his situation under Emery.

“He needs to leave Arsenal in the next transfer market, at least on loan to play more and regain his confidence,” he told Goal.

“He has been influenced lately by the change in coach and his new style, but I am confident that he will return better than before, because of his great potential and the competitive spirit that will help him get back in.”

Time will tell if that happens, but given his lack of playing time through the first half of the campaign, it seems like sensible advice for Elneny which he should take as his own career comes before Arsenal’s need for quality depth in the squad.

Further, there is also the threat that with another transfer window to stamp his own mark on the squad, Emery could choose to strengthen his midfield further. As noted by Mundo Deportivo, Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Ever Banega, and so such an arrival could influence Elneny’s future and push him closer to the exit door too.

9 different players have won the last 9 women's majors. That makes the Evian tough to predict.

EVIAN-LES-BAINS, France (AP) — After nine different winners in the past nine women's golf majors, the Evian Championship has no clear favorite when play begins Thursday.

Even the LPGA Tour this season has proved unpredictable with 20 winners of the 25 titles so far. No one has claimed more than three.

"That's pretty incredible," said Lydia Ko of New Zealand, the 2015 Evian champion who went on to win back-to-back majors at the 2016 ANA Inspiration in California.

"It just shows that it's not someone who's playing well, all the players are playing great," Ko said. "You're not getting carried away about, 'Hey, I'm playing against this one person.' The LPGA is a very global tour."

When she was No. 1 as a teenager, Ko appeared to be as dominant as Annika Sorenstam was more than a decade ago. But the 20-year-old Ko has struggled and is not among the season's 20 winners, though she was runner-up last weekend at the Indy Women in Tech Championship in Indianapolis.

"It would be a lie to say, 'Hey, no, I've been cool, calm and collected the whole way.' I was frustrated but you just have to be patient," Ko said at Evian Resort Golf Club.

Second-ranked Lexi Thompson won in Indianapolis for her second title this season. It could have been the American's third but for a notorious incident at the ANA Inspiration where she was penalized four strokes for a rule violation reported by a television viewer, then lost a playoff to top-ranked So Yeon Ryu.

Ryu now has two career majors, six years apart. When the 27-year-old South Korean won the 2011 U.S. Women's Open, the Evian was still two years away from major status.

For its fifth year as the fifth women's major, the Evian has bumped its prize money fund to $3.65 million. The winner will take home $547,500, a raise of $60,000 from In Gee Chun's prize last year.

Chun's winning score at 21 under — a major record for men and women — will be tough to challenge. Cool temperatures and light rain are forecast for much of the weekend on the par-71 course looking across Lake Geneva to Switzerland.

The final tour stop in Europe this season is also a farewell for 2009 and 2011 Evian champion Ai Miyazato. The former No. 1 is playing her last tournament before retiring.

"Specifically this week it's going to be my last event, like last-last event," the 32-year-old Japanese golfer said, "and I feel great."

Deal today: Manchester City star snubs PSG to sign new six-year contract

Manchester City youngster Phil Foden is reportedly set to sign a new contract with the club today to tie him down at the Etihad Stadium until 2024.

The 18-year-old is considered a big talent in English football at the moment, and had unsurprisingly attracted some interest from elsewhere due to a lack of regular action in Pep Guardiola’s side.

However, it is now expected that a new contract could be made official today as the Telegraph report Foden has decided to commit his future to City despite interest from major European clubs like Paris Saint-Germain and Borussia Dortmund.

The report states Foden is determined to nail down a spot in Guardiola’s side, and in fairness, he’s done a decent job so far considering how competitive this squad is.

The England Under-21 international has 13 appearances and one goal for City this term, and has given a good account of himself whenever he has got on to the pitch.

Key condition which could scupper Anthony Martial signing Man Utd contract renewal

Anthony Martial will see his current contract expire at the end of the season, and there is reportedly a key condition holding back a Man Utd renewal.

The 23-year-old has made a positive impression this season, scoring eight goals in 18 appearances in all competitions to suggest that he’s capable of delivering consistently and establishing himself as a prominent figure under Jose Mourinho.

It comes after his fair share of struggles in securing a regular spot in the starting line-up, but given the more positive run in recent weeks, it could have been interpreted as being positive in potential contract talks too.

However, as noted by Calciomercato, via the paper edition of Corriere dello Sport, it’s been suggested that Martial is waiting to see if Mourinho leaves Old Trafford before the summer, before committing his long-term future to the Red Devils.

If accurate, that’s a damning insight into the relationship and trust that the French international has in Mourinho, and that would suggest that things still aren’t quite right despite his impressive run in the side.

With Man Utd still languishing in sixth place in the Premier League table, eight points adrift of the top four, the pressure remains on Mourinho to ensure that the club meet their minimum objective of qualifying for the Champions League next season.

In turn, question marks could remain over the future of the Portuguese tactician, and should an exit materialise, that could result in Martial signing a new deal.

Nevertheless, with time running out and as he edges closer to becoming a free agent next summer, it could be a tense few months for United in their bid to avoid losing him for nothing.

Sarri wants frustrated Chelsea star to remain at Stamford Bridge amid transfer links

Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri is hopeful that Cesc Fabregas will decide to remain with the club, despite his lack of playing time this season.

The Spaniard has featured in 13 matches across all competitions for the Blues this term, with only five of those coming in the Premier League, as he has fallen down the pecking order under Sarri.

The Italian head coach has often opted to use the likes N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic ahead of Fabregas, as he favours a 4-3-3 system which best suits his ‘Sarri-ball’ philosophy.

According to The Sun, Fabregas has grown frustrated at his lack of playing time in recent months and AC Milan are poised to secure his signature in January, but Sarri insists he wants the 31-year-old to stay in London.

Ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday, Sarri told Sky Sports: “In this position, we have only two players, Jorginho and Fabregas, so for me, it would be really a problem without Cesc.

“I want him to stay, I don’t know the final decision of Cesc and the club of course.

“But for me, it’s very important and if Cesc will go I think that we need to buy another player, and it’s not easy because, technically, Cesc is a very important player.

“I think that in the market it’s very difficult to find a player with his characteristics.”

Fabregas has fallen out of favour at Chelsea

Fabregas has racked up 196 appearances for Chelsea since his move from Barcelona back in 2014, helping the club to win two Premier League titles and an FA Cup.

The veteran playmaker is widely considered to be one of the best midfielders of his generation, with unerring composure on the ball, radar-like vision and a passing range which is second to none.

Chelsea are currently fourth in the English top-flight and they still have three cup competitions to play for next year, but they are far from the finished article under Sarri just yet.

The Blues could still make use of his unique qualities between now and May but if they decide to cash in on him in January, their loss could be Milan’s gain and he could adapt perfectly to Italian football given its slower, more methodical pace.

Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth duel to the finish in race for PGA Player of the Year award

PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. (Sept. 19, 2017) – PGA Champion Justin Thomas and Open Champion Jordan Spieth will carry their duel to the final points event of the season – The TOUR Championship – in determining the 2017 PGA of America Player of the Year, one of the season-ending awards presented by the PGA of America for excellence by a PGA TOUR professional.

Five-time winner Thomas saw his lead trimmed last weekend, 102-90 over Spieth, who returned to No. 1 in the season money list with a tie for seventh place in the BMW Championship. Dustin Johnson is next with 66 points, followed by Hideki Matsuyama with 56 and BMW Champion Marc Leishman with 44. Johnson and Matsuyama have each won four times this season, while Spieth owns three victories.

Since 1948, the PGA of America has honored the game’s best players with the PGA Player of the Year Award. It is presented to the top TOUR professional based on a point system for tournament wins, official money standings, and scoring averages. Points for the 2016-17 season began with the Safeway Open on Oct. 16, and conclude Sept. 24, at the TOUR Championship.

Spieth maintains his lead in the Vardon Trophy race with a 68.845 adjusted scoring average based upon 81 complete rounds. Rickie Fowler is next at 68.914, followed by Leishman (69.380), Thomas (69.439) and Matsuyama (69.486).

Since 1937, the Vardon Trophy, named by the PGA of America in honor of legendary British golfer Harry Vardon, has been presented annually to the touring professional with the lowest adjusted scoring average. It is based on a minimum of 60 rounds, with no incomplete rounds, in events co-sponsored or designated by the PGA TOUR. The adjusted score is computed from the average score of the field at each event.

The PGA TOUR also recognizes its annual Player of the Year, with the winner announced in early October, determined by a vote of the membership.

‘Guy is so overrated’ – These Liverpool fans react to transfer target Christian Pulisic signing for Chelsea

Chelsea have secured the signing of Christian Pulisic from Borussia Dortmund in a deal worth €64m, and Liverpool fans have had their say on the transfer.

As per Dortmund’s tweet below, they have confirmed the deal and the fee involved, while Pulisic will remain with the Bundesliga giants until the end of the season on loan from the Blues.

However, as noted by the Telegraph, Liverpool were also heavily linked with launching a bid for the 20-year-old, with Jurgen Klopp previously working with him during his time in charge of Dortmund.

With that in mind, the Reds have seemingly missed out to their Premier League rivals and will now perhaps look elsewhere to help bolster their attacking options.

Nevertheless, based on the reaction below from many of their supporters, it seems as though most of them are pleased not to have splashed out such a hefty fee for Pulisic, with many arguing that the USA international is perhaps overrated.

With 10 goals and 13 assists in 81 Bundesliga appearances coupled with nine goals in 23 caps for the USA, it would appear as though Pulisic does indeed have a bright future ahead of him for club and country.

However, he has yet to prove himself at the highest level on a consistent basis, and so there are certainly two sides to the argument.

Whether it’s sour grapes on missing out or genuine delight that they haven’t spent so much on a largely unproven talent, there seems to be a general feeling amongst these Liverpool fans at least that there is no real regret over Chelsea landing Pulisic ahead of them.

Further, and perhaps more intriguingly, the general consensus is that if the Liverpool hierarchy really wanted Pulisic, they would have landed his signature. Instead, many fans are choosing to believe in Klopp’s decision making and track record thus far and have full faith that the Reds boss has made the right choice.
