Continental Olympic Qualifications Tournaments on program. FIVB announced  the details of the qualification process for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games .

 

 

China, Brazil, Russia and Bulgaria are already qualified for Olympics in Beijing 2008. 12 teams will participate in the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. In the recent World Cup, three men teams have earned their Olympic berths for Volleyball tournament of the 2008 Olympic Games.

The World Cup was the first Olympic Qualification step. Eight places for men have to be decided yet and they will be assigned through two incoming steps: the Continental Olympic Qualification Tournaments which will decide five tickets and the World Olympic Qualification Tournaments which will decide the last three berths.

Five tickets will ba decided at the African, Asian, European, Norceca and South American Continental Qualification Tournaments with the winner of each tournament gets the Olympic berth. The NORCECA Olympic Qualification Tournament will be held from January 4-12 in Puerto Rico. European, South American and African Qualification Tournaments will be held in January. Only Asian Tournament will be held in May. The other three berths will be fought at three World Olympic Qualification Tournaments to be held respectively in Germany, Japan and Portugal.

The World Olympic Qualification Tournaments:
23th May – 25th May in Germany (Dusseldorf): Germany + 3 teams decided by drawing of lots
30th May – 1th June in Portugal (Espinho): Portugal + 3 teams decided by drawing of lots
31th May – 8th JuneJapan (Tokyo): Japan + 4 Asian teams best ranked in the Asian Continental Championship (Australia, Korea, Iran, Thailand) + 3 teams decided by drawing of lots

Drawing of lots: 3 best ranked teams from Europe, 2 from Norceca, 1 from South America, 1 from Africa, 2 from Asia (Indonesia, Chinese Taipei). The drawing of lots will be conducted in February 2008 in Japan, at the end of all Continental Olympic Qualification Tournaments.
