Dean Malenko has evidently quit WWE. Sports Illustrated reported the news late on April 25 and many pro wrestling fans are surely wondering what happened.

According to SI, WWE has been contacted for comment but thus far, nothing has been said. Malenko has not publicly commented on the story either, which means there’s no way to know how long it will be until one side or the other, makes an announcement.

Malenko worked as a backstage agent in WWE for the past eight years. His work was highly regarded during that time and he became an invaluable part of the team behind the scenes.

Dean’s ring career lasted for 22 years, from 1979 to 2001. Malenko is a second generation star and earned his fame in the business first as a breakout star in ECW. He then moved on to WCW, where he was a member of The Four Horsemen. Malenko then had a run in WWE, where he debuted with The Radicalz.

Dean Malenko never had sizzling charisma on the mic, but he was considered by many to be one of the best ring technicians of the modern era.

If the report proves to be true, then Malenko will be the latest casualty of WWE creative. Brian “Road Dogg” James recently stepped down from his position as head writer on SmackDown Live.
