A stipulation is being added to Roman Reigns and Baron Corbin’s match at the Royal Rumble.
WWE is hyping that the winner of the Reigns vs. Robert Roode tables match on tonight’s SmackDown will get to pick the stipulation for Reigns vs. Corbin at the Royal Rumble. Roode returned from his 30-day wellness policy suspension last Friday and helped Corbin and Dolph Ziggler lay out Reigns and The Usos in the show-closing angle.
In addition to their match at the pay-per-view, Reigns and Corbin will both be entrants in the men’s Royal Rumble. Minute Maid Park in Houston, Texas is hosting the PPV on January 26.
With the help of Ziggler and The Revival, Corbin defeated Reigns in a tables, ladders, and chairs match at last month’s TLC PPV. Reigns and Corbin also had “loser eats dog food” matches at house shows last weekend.
Tonight’s SmackDown is taking place at the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro, North Carolina. An appearance by Kane has been announced for the show, John Morrison will return to the ring against Big E, and Lacey Evans and Sasha Banks will finally face off.

We are looking for writers to help contribute TV recaps, both on a regular basis and fill-in when needed.
We cover all WWE in-ring televised shows and PPV (Raw, SmackDown, 205 Live, Main Event, NXT, etc), Impact Wrestling, New Japan, AEW, Ring of Honor, NWA, and some others. In some cases, we might need a weekly commitment and in other cases, we might need a fill-in for a week.
If you’re interested, drop me a line with what you currently watch and links to any written work. We prefer to work with those who have some experience, but are willing to work with someone if they’re the right fit.
We are not looking for opinion writers or news writers at this time.

NJPW and ROH have announced the lineup for G1 Supercard on April 6 at MSG in New York City, N.Y. The show will be headlined by IWGP Hvt. Champion Jay White vs. Kazuchika Okada. Okada won the NJPW Cup last weekend to get this title shot against White at MSG. White beat Okada at Wrestle Kingdom back in January before White beat Tanahashi for the IWGP Hvt. Championship in February.
The rest of the card is as follows:
ROH World Champion Jay Lethal vs. Matt Taven vs. Marty Scurll in a Ladder match
IWGP Intercontinental Champion Tetsuya Naito vs. Kota Ibushi
RevPro British Heavyweight Champion Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi
IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship & ROH World Tag Team Championship match – Winner Takes All Guerrillas of Destiny (Tama Tonga & Tanga Roa) vs. Villain Enterprises (PCO & Brody King) vs. The Briscoes (Mark & Jay Briscoe) vs.L.I.J. (SANADA & EVIL)
IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Taiji Ishimori vs. Dragon Lee vs. Bandido
Bully Ray vs. Juice Robinson – Street Fight
Women of Honor Champion Mayu Iwatani vs. Kelly Klein
Dalton Castle vs. Rush
NEVER Openweight Championship & ROH TV Championship – Winner Takes All NEVER Openweight Champion Will Ospreay vs. ROH World TV Champion Jeff Cobb
Honor Rumble (Participants announced so far include Jushin Liger, P.J. Black, Kenny King, The Beer City Bruiser, Brian Milonas, and Cheeseburger).
You can watch this show on Fite.tv (iPPV), NJPW World (monthly sub), or on ROH’s Honor Club (monthly or annual sub).
Radican’s Analysis: This is a really strong lineup being presented by NJPW and ROH. It feels like mostly a NJPW card, which is good, as it felt like ROH didn’t have a ton of momentum coming out of the “17th Anniversary” PPV earlier this month. The card is really deep, especially with White vs. Okada, Tanahashi vs. Ibushi, and Sabre vs. Tanahashi bolstering the card really nicely.
The undercard should be really strong as well. The two winner takes all matches with Ospreay vs. Cobb for the NEVER Openweight and ROH World TV titles and the four-way for the ROH World Tag Team Titles and the IWGP Hvt. Tag Team Titles should be really good.
The plan for the show is to have an hour pre-show beginning at 6:30p.m. EST on April 6. The main show is expected to run from 7:30p.m. until midnight according to multiple sources I’ve spoken to this past week. It’s a shame that more NJPW talent couldn’t be fit on the main card, as I would have loved to have seen Minoru Suzuki and Tomohiro Ishii have a big moment at MSG.
Be sure to stay tuned to PWTorch.com and PWTorch VIP for extensive coverage of this event next weekend.
It will be “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt vs. Goldberg for the Universal Championship at Super ShowDown in Saudi Arabia later this month.
The match was set up for Super ShowDown during Goldberg’s return to SmackDown last night. He appeared on the show via satellite and talked about how watching the Royal Rumble with his son gave him the itch to get back into the ring. Goldberg mentioned that WWE Champion Brock Lesnar already had an opponent — but there was also the Universal title.
Goldberg was interrupted by a Firefly Fun House news report, with Wyatt accepting Goldberg’s challenge for Super ShowDown.
In the main event of last night’s SmackDown, Carmella defeated Naomi, Alexa Bliss, and Dana Brooke to become the next challenger for Bayley’s SmackDown Women’s Championship. Carmella was then attacked by Bayley immediately after her win.

Guest: Jake “The Snake” Roberts
Date: May 13, 2019
Your Host: James Walsh
Jake “The Snake” Roberts is on a tour that is bringing delight and laughter to all the fans of classic 80’s and 90’s wrestling with his “Dirty Details” tour. Promoting an evening of entertainment Jake jokes you will have to “wash your ears out after hearing”, the WWE Hall of Famer stopped by the Wrestling Epicenter to discuss the tour, his 7 years of sobriety, the Dark Side of the Ring documentary series he has been a part of, the birth of AEW, and the hunger for wrestling nostalgia.
Jake “The Snake” Roberts rolls into Mesa, Arizona at Club Red on Tuesday night, May 21st for his “Dirty Details” show. Jake promises a meet and greet signing for those who turn up early where he will sign your classic “Snake Man” memorabilia.

•On deciding to do the Dirty Details tour: “I just wanted to have fun, man. Get out there, see the fans. Rub elbows with them. See if I can’t help some people on sobriety’s road. This is how I’m doing it, man. I went and saw Mick Foley’s show and I said “I know I’m funnier than that! Why don’t I start me a show?” And then I said, “Well, heck. Instead of writing new comedy, why not go over the things that happened in the past!” Lord knows I’ve got plenty of that to go over. I have wrestled for 37 years. So, I’ve got 37 years of material to go over. I’ll be busy for a while!”
•On the popularity of classic wrestling stars: “I think with VInce putting it out there all the itme with the (WWE) Network, it creates new fans of that era. I go to Comic Cons all the time and there are kids there that are 8 and 9 years old and they want my autograph and I say, “Wait a minute, you weren’t even born yet when I was wrestling.” They’re like, “Yeah, but we watched you do this and you on that.” I’m really grateful for it (The Network) man. It’s given me another career.”
•On comparing himself in 2003 when we last interviewed him to now: “I was miserable. I was still drinking and using drugs. Those were dark times for me, man. I’m very fortunate that I made it through it. By all rights, I shouldn’t have because I was a mess. I didn’t even want to live anymore. Really dark times. But, I came through it. It took a lot of hard work but I’ve been clean now 7 years. Things are beautiful.”
•On how much DDP is to credit for his sobriety: “Well, I’ll tell ya the real truth on that thing, man. DDP opened his doors and gave me a safe place. But, I had to do the work. He didn’t go to meetings with mme. I did. I went to meetings every day. He facilitated the thing is what he did. He didn’t actually take part in it. As far as me traveling, he gave me rules like, “Ok, you’ve got to go with somebody.” I had to pay somebody to go with me. I was never alone. But, he was seldom a part of it. But, facilitating it, yes. In facilitating it, he was a big part of it.”
•On his current relationship with DDP: “Pretty good. Pretty good. We talk nearly every day. He’s doing a lot and so am I. We kind of went our separate ways there. I’m busy on the road all the time. He doesn’t want to be on the road. So, there you go.”
•On the birth of AEW and his take on it: “Oh, huge. They needed to create a buzz to kick it off and make a splash. They’re going to do it. They’re going to make that splash. How they follow it up is going to be key. If they don’t follow it up with something good, then it is over. They’re spending big money and the guy has got deep pockets so the hope is they’ll bring wrestling back around and become competition with McMahon. That would be the best thing that could happen. But, the problem is the talent. There isn’t a huge talent pool like there used to be. A lot of guys today are cookie-cutter types. They’re not characters. They don’t know how to do it yet. That is the bad part about Vince’s machine. His machine creates new talent all the time. But, the talent never gets to grow and become something to where they’re unique. They’re all built at that Performance Center. The guys learn a bunch of moves and that’s it. As far as doing interviews, they don’t do their own interviews. It is all written and scripted stuff. When you’re doing scripted stuff, the character is not there and the people see through it. They realize these guys are just reading. The fans want more. They deserve more. But, whenever Vince started this whole thing up and killed all the territories, that was the breeding ground for the talent. So, there it went. It is hard to learn how to wrestle working once or twice a week. You can’t do it. You’ve got to go out there five, six, and seven nights a week to polish it, to get it where it is second nature. That is what these guys are missing.”
•On the finished product of Dark Side of the Ring: “I thought it was a pretty good job they’ve done all in all. I think they did a pretty fair job and they were fair with what they did. They didn’t go for jugular veins, but they were honest. They brought some things up that need to be brought up and I like it!”
•On if his WWE DVD was his autobiography: “Not at all. My book will be out within the next few months. 600 pages, I did all of it myself. It is going to blow some things out of the water. It is straight up me, all me, and the inside and out of me. It was done with a lot of hard work and love. I’m very passionate about me. It has taken six, seven years to do it. Speaking from my heart and my head. There is a lot of things that will come out that I think people will understand more about wrestling, wrestlers, and life.”
•On the content of his Dirty Details tour: “You’re going to want to wash your ears out after my show. Nobody under 18 is allowed in. But, other than that, man. Get ready for the ride of your life. You’re going to get to hear about all the things you thought you wanted to know about. After you hear about them, you’re going to say, “Oh my God, these guys were crazy!” These were the wild times, man. The ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. We were wild, man. We were running hard. And, the boys that ran hard played hard and we did. You’re going to hear about me, the Snake, and where we went.”

The following are highlights of an interview “The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling” conducted with Shawn Michaels. He talked about his role in a new movie, his work training wrestler in NXT, and more. Thanks to Chad and J.P. from the podcast for providing this summary to PWTorch…
•On his role in the “90 Feet From Home” movie: “It was very different and way out of my wheelhouse and kind of my comfort zone and especially now. I’ve mentioned in a few of these interviews and of course those who are familiar with my wrestling career and even the bad guy version of me there was still a little bit of fun and some charm and almost a “Dennis The Menace” quality to the bad guy version of me and this was totally different than anything that I’ve ever done. It was clearly evil and a great deal of hatred and dysfunction and, honestly, that was the most intimidating part of all of this. And especially now at this point in my life, I am a relatively happy-go-lucky 53 year old man, so the later version of Jimmy Devine I felt was something that I would be more comfortable with, but the early version with the violence and abuse and, honestly, the hatred and vitriol that this character has was something that I don’t know if I’ve ever even at my worst had maybe quite that bad. So that was the most challenging part and through this experience trying to create that was a bit of an uncomfortable process, I’d have to admit.”
•Channeling a non-traditional role as an abusive step-father: “The one thing that I guess helps me is that there is a yin and a yang to everything. For humility and all of those things there is evil, there is hate, there is pride, and I really don’t think you can appreciate the one truly unless you have a real understanding of the other, so from that standpoint I was certainly at peace within myself of doing the role. But honestly, the challenge was knowing and wondering if I could commit to going there in a very uninhibited no hold barred way. I was very concerned because I know you bring out qualities that even if they are in all of us, a majority of us work all of our lives to get away from those and keep them under wraps and secure them in a little lock box in our heart or our mind or something and you work very hard to not allow them to get out until a time when you are supposed to. It is a bit kind of strange, but I’ve told everybody that I certainly don’t have the experience to be able to turn something like that on, and off and it is a switch where I haven’t been acting long enough to manufacture that on command. For me it was a process of trying to get there and allow yourself to engage in this side of you that you have really have never been in touch with and certainly those areas that you have at one time in your life you’ve tried to distance yourself so far from that it is kind of strange to want to allow yourself to willingly go there.”
•First impressions of the WWE Performance Center: “What they’ve got going on there is so phenomenal. I’ve got to be honest, it doesn’t matter what respectfully the kind of credentials you’ve got coming in. You’ve got the most important thing one needs to understand about working for the Performance Center and NXT is you want to add to what is already a part of a phenomenal system and you notice it as soon as you come through the door. That is something that kicks you right in the face when you come in and that was honestly the most important thing that I expressed with Hunter and Matt is my goodness what you’ve guys got here is really great and I’d love to be a part of this but only if I can enhance it and make it better and can add to what was already a fluid and efficient system.”
•How does he feel he has fit in so far? “A lot of that is just trying to find you place and again because they’ve got so much covered you start to look at it as where can I help the most. I hope I’ve been able to do that and it has been a sheer joy to be a part of it and a great learning experience for me, which is one of the things that I strangely enough said to everyone when I got there was that I really feel like if I am to do well here I will learn as much as I’d hope to be teaching and I really do think that has happened. I am hoping that the product has and will continue to get better with all of the people that we are adding – myself included – but it’s exciting for me because at this stage of your life learning other aspects of the wrestling business, a business that I have loved since I was 12, is pretty special. You don’t always imagine yourself at 53 years old being in the same line of work that you’ve been in since you were 19 and still learning different aspects of it. To do that with your buddies and of course with a bunch of talent that is a joy to work with and clearly makes it easy when it is a generation that grew up with me and Road Dog and Hunter, so right now I feel like it is something that works for all of us in a positive way.”
•Is Bret Hart his greatest opponent? “I think everyone would be certainly say on paper, and you look at Bret and I and say, I guess it is no stretch that they had chemistry, but still every now and then you run into somebody that does have as much talent but isn’t quite there and fortunately Bret and I knew that the first time we ever got in the ring together, I think in a tag team. It is one of those things that you do and it only takes a couple of touches of one another and you know that okay, there is something special here. You find little ways to know that it is going to come to fruition in an even better way and a more positive way in the future, and again that is something that Bret and I had and I had that with (Chris) Jericho and I was fortunate enough to have that with a decent number of guys but when you put together certainly the ability of a Bret Hart. I certainly feel like I had the capability too, and then you have that chemistry with each other, it is a pretty tough combination to beat.”

•Latest TV Highlights
Monday Night Raw
Raw’s main event was a Women’s Championship showcase match that put Bayley and Becky together to take on the Tag Team Champions Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross in a non-title match. Earlier in the night, Charly Caruso interviewed Bayley to help promote the main event. Charly asked about Sasha’s return, Bayley simply responded that Sasha is her best friend, but she won’t talk about what they talk about because it’s personal. Charly shifted focus to Becky noting that the spotlight will be on her and that she’s the face of the women’s division, not Bayley. Bayley responded saying she doesn’t agree with that because her title means just as much as Becky’s. Fast forward to the match, after a couple of minutes, Sasha Banks makes her way to ringside. After a few more minutes of the match, Sasha got into the ring and hit Becky with a back stabber from behind causing a disqualification. Sasha then grabbed a chair and hit Becky with it twice before Bayley grabbed the chair away from Sasha. Sasha said a few words to Bayley, who looked conflicted. Bayley then had a grin come across her face and she bashed Becky with the chair a few times herself to a huge cheer.
Raw featured a new installment of the Firefly Funhouse. Bray started by saying what The Fiend did to Finn Balor was super super rude and behalf of everyone in the Funhouse, he’s sorry. The Vince McMahon demon doll appeared and started yelling at him, “How dare you challenge Seth Rollins or Braun Strowman to a match at Hell in a Cell, do you know how valuable they are to me?” Bray pulled out some money and waved it in the doll’s face before feeding it to him. The Vince doll passed out from the ecstasy. Ramblin’ Rabbit appeared while Bray was talking holding a “HELP” sign and Bray casually pushed him down under the table in front of him. Bray said that The Fiend helps him to inflict pain. The Fiend flashed on the screen for a second. Bray Wyatt appeared again and said “See you in hell” before laughing as his smile turned sinister. Bray snapped out of it and smiled a big smile and waving bye as the Firefly Funhouse music played.
Smackdown Live
Roman Reigns found out who his attacker was once and for all and it wasn’t Daniel Bryan. After the spear last week, Bryan was still demanding an apology, so in the final segment of Smackdown Bryan came to the ring and demanded Reigns apologize to him for the false accusations, the spear, and most importantly calling him a liar. Roman came out and as he was walking down the ramp he was attacked by Erick Rowan. After attacking him for a moment, Rowan grabbed a microphone and said the joke is on Reigns before turning to Bryan. Rowan said Bryan can’t control him and after slapping him over and over last week, he dared Bryan to do it again. Rowan kneeled next to Roman and said he was proud of the two attacks, but he’s most proud of the pain Roman will feel at Clash of Champions. He threw Roman back out of the ring and into the ringside steps. As Rowan cleared the announce table, Bryan ran up and yelled “I’m your friend” and slapped Rowan. Rowan then gave Bryan a Claw Slam through the announce table. Rowan yelled “Nobody tells me what to do! Never again!”
Bayley opened Smackdown this week doing her usual entrance with the “Bayley Buddies,” but she didn’t high five any fans on her way to the ring (good touch) and came out to a very mixed reaction. She said people were shocked by what she did, but Sasha is her best friend and they’ve always had each other’s backs. She said nothing has changed and she’s still trying to show them the kind of champion she wants to be including giving people opportunities and lift the division up. She said she’s tried to make fans feel like she did when she was a kid and she’s teaching kids the value of loyalty, which is why she stuck with Sasha. Charlotte interrupted as Bayley turned her focus to her and their match at Clash of Champions. Charlotte said people say a lot about her, but what you see is what you get, there’s no confusion of blind-siding and there’s definitely no hugging. Sasha interrupted. Charlotte attacked Bayley before Sasha got to the ring to try and get the one up on being outnumbered. Charlotte was beating up Sasha when Bayley reentered the fray and hit her with a chair three times. Sasha then took the chair and hit Bayley three times, then Bayley hit her one more time. The fans chanted Becky, but Bayley’s music played to end the segment.

Is it weird I’m less upset about trolling, but more upset at how garbage most people are at it? Where’s the nuance, the art? For context, 7 yrs ago a man texted my phone by accident thinking I was his estranged Uncle Brian. I have been giving this dude bad life advice ever since.

•Closing Commentary
– That Ricochet-Samoa Joe match finish was complete garbage. I’m so tired of Triple Threat matches. Why are we having a Triple Threat match in the King of the Ring Tournament next week? Playoff/Tournament games do not end in ties in literally any type of sport. WWE has spent months doing this reset and restart crap, but they don’t do it here? That was, as Randy Orton would say, “STUPID!” If anything, they could’ve made it a double disqualification and they’re both eliminated giving Baron Corbin even more heel heat because he gets a free pass to the finals. Better yet, just restart the match like you’ve been doing and have an actual winner like every sport on every competitive level. This is not complicated and it’s a B.S. “finish” to have Joe and Ricochet end in a cheesy tie where they’re both laying on the mat with an arm touching the other person. Then the referee gets on a headset with who-the-hell-knows and conveniently it’s a live microphone to television and not just the guys in the back, so we can hear his incoherent rambling of “I’ll take that under advisement.” If we’ve had replay in WWE, how do we have so many matches in with stupid finishes? Why imitate the NFL and NBA with the replay official gimmick if you’re never going to use it again? Where was this magical replay official last week when A.J. faked being hit with a chair by Braun? That would’ve been an easy replay to go to and restart the match. Dumb. I hated this in so many ways.

Here’s a look at this week’s ratings for Vince McMahon’s XFL revival:
Saturday —
As it has every week, the early game aired on ABC. The overall audience dropped 24 percent to 1.558 million viewers and it did a 0.4 rating in the 18-49 demo, down 20 percent. The 18-34 number is unavailable at this time.
The later game on Fox held up better with an average audience of 1.802 million viewers, down just six percent from last week’s Fox broadcast. This week’s game was down 17 percent in 18-49 to a 0.5 and 40 percent in 18-34 to a 0.3.
As compared to other sports programming for the day, both games beat everything except a primetime NBA on ABC game that averaged 2.347 million viewers. In the demos, the Fox game beat everything except the NBA and Saturday Night Live on NBC.
Sunday —
Game one, which aired in the same time slot as the late game the previous three weeks, was on FS1 and averaged 1.113 million viewers, up 11 percent from the game on FS1 the previous week. This week’s game did a 0.38 rating in 18-49, up three percent. In 18-34, it was down 18 percent, averaging a 0.23 rating.
The second game aired in primetime on ESPN2, a first for this incarnation of the league. It averaged 1.03 million viewers and a 0.34 rating in 18-49 and a 0.2 in 18-34.
This was the first time that ESPN2 had aired an XFL game. The best comparison would also be last week’s FS1 game as the two stations have a similar subscriber base and average audience number.
It’s rare that anything on ESPN2 does over a million viewers, so that was a great number. As a comparison, the past weekend’s college basketball games on ESPN2 fell between 322,000 and 791,000 viewers.
Below are the ratings and average viewership totals for all four weeks of the XFL so far:
