Disney star Cameron Boyce dies at 20

Cameron Boyce, the Disney star known for his roles in films and television shows including Descendants and Jessie, has died.

The cause of Boyce’s death was announced as a seizure due to “an ongoing medical condition.”

A spokesman for the Boyce family said on Saturday : "It is with a profoundly heavy heart that we report that this morning we lost Cameron. He passed away in his sleep due to a seizure which was a result of an ongoing medical condition for which he was being treated. The world is now undoubtedly without one of its brightest lights, but his spirit will live on through the kindness and compassion of all who knew and loved him.

"We are utterly heartbroken and ask for privacy during this immensely difficult time as we grieve the loss of our precious son and brother."

Boyce starred alongside Dove Cameron and Sofia Carson in the Descendants series, where Boyce played Carlos De Vil, the son of Cruella De Vil.

He also played the character Luke Ross in the Disney Channel television series Jessie, which ran for four series and 98 episodes.

He was cast alongside Adam Sandler in the 2010 comedy film Grown Ups alongside Salma Hayek. Writing a tribute post on Instagram, Sandler said: "Too young. Too sweet. Too funny. Just the nicest, most talented, and most decent kid around. Loved that kid. Cared so much about his family. Cared so much about the world. Thank you, Cameron, for all you gave to us. So much more was on the way. All our hearts are broken. Thinking of your amazing family and sending our deepest condolences."

In March, Boyce introduced former Vice President Joe Biden at the Biden Courage Awards.

The actor was due to appear in the new HBO comedy series Mrs. Fletcher.

Fellow Disney Channel actor Gregg Sulkin also paid tribute to Boyce on Twitter. “Heartbroken. Lost for words,” he wrote. “I had known Cameron Boyce for many years. He was always polite. Always respectful and always a class act.”

Musician Hozier also wrote about the actor on his Twitter, saying: "Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of Cameron Boyce. When we met I was taken aback by his energy and drive, his dedication to his craft and the sheer kindness he exuded. It was a joy to witness the man’s skill. Sending love to his family and loved ones."

A spokesman for the Disney Channel described Boyce as “an incredibly talented performer, a remarkably caring and thoughtful person” in a statement released on Saturday.

Bones found after tombs exhumed in hunt for girl who went missing in Vatican City 30 years ago

Thirty years after the disappearance of the 15-year old daughter of a Vatican City employee, a case that has mystified Rome for decades, the Vatican has announced that two sets of bones have been found under a stone manhole cover in one of its cemeteries.

A request from the family of the missing girl, Emanuela Orlandi, prompted the Vatican to open the tombs of two 19th-century German princesses in the cemetery of the Pontifical Teutonic College on Thursday this week. The family had received an anonymous tip that Orlandi’s remains might be buried in that area of the cemetery.

However, after two hours of work, the team found the graves completely empty – containing neither the expected remains of the princesses or any clues to the more modern mystery.

Following the fruitless exhumation, Vatican police decided to hold new searches in the area of the cemetery where the remains of Princess Sophie von Hohenlohe, who died in 1836, and Princess Carlotta Federica of Mecklenburg, who died in 1840, should have been.

Vatican authorities said their bones could have been moved over the years due to structural works at the cemetery in the 1960s and 1970s.

Vatican spokesman Alessandro Gisotti said Saturday the searches had centered on the area adjacent to the princesses’ tombs, inside the Pontifical Teutonic College. There investigators identified two ossuaries – or set of bones – located under the pavement of an area covered by a manhole.

Mr Gisotti added the area was immediately sealed off and the ossuaries will be opened in the presence of forensic experts on July 20 for further investigations.

The two set of bones could belong to the two princesses, but could also bring the search for Orlandi a step forward.

The daughter of a Vatican bank employee, Orlandi disappeared in June 1983 after leaving her family’s Vatican City apartment for a music lesson in Rome. Over the years, there have been many rumours, some wilder than others, about what happened to her – including conspiracies tied to the Mafia, the Vatican bank scandal and the plot to assassinate Pope John Paul II.

The new inspections were a result of the ongoing efforts of the Orlandi family to find the truth about the disappearance of their relative.

The Vatican gave the green light to the exhumations after the family received an anonymous note last summer, hinting that the girl’s remains might be in one of the two graves located in the Vatican’s Teutonic Cemetery.

According to the letter, Orlandi’s body should have been found in the tomb that an angel holding a sheet saying: “Rest in peace” points to from its location on the cemetery wall.

Hong Kong protesters clash with riot police after massive democracy rally

Hundreds of riot police fired tear gas and rubber bullets as they clashed with masked protesters in downtown Hong Kong last night after demonstrators threw eggs and vandalised China’s liaison office to the city, in a direct challenge Beijing’s authority.

In a night of chaos, protesters returning home from a mass rally were also bloodied by a gang of stick-wielding assailants in Yuen Long, Hong Kong’s western New Territories.

A journalist recording the attack – widely presumed to be the work of pro-government vigilantes – was assaulted. Other victims alleged police were slow to react.

Tensions had rapidly escalated after another huge anti-government march that organisers claimed was attended by 430,000 people, but police said peaked at 138,000.  It was the latest in a series of mass protests in a summer of discontent that was sparked by a contested extradition bill that could send suspects for trial in China.

Thousands of demonstrators ignored police orders to stop in the Wan Chai district, about a mile from the government’s Legislative Council, instead taking the authorities by surprise by besieging China’s official representation office.

Protesters blocked nearby roads with makeshift barricades and chanted “reclaim Hong Kong, revolution of our times!”, while some sprayed “real democracy” and “universal suffrage” in black paint on the walls. edoms.

The act of open resistance will infuriate Beijing, which many people fear is running out of patience with the protracted protest campaign, and riot police moved in forcefully to quickly clear the streets.

The efforts of a group of pensioners to placate officers with sunflowers charmed bystanders but did little to prevent the riot police armed with batons and shields from chasing demonstrators back through central thoroughfares towards the financial district and firing multiple rounds of tear gas.

In a tense stand-off under a flyover in the commercial district, protesters retaliated with paint, umbrellas and a few glass bottles. Bricks and poles were uprooted from pavements and steel fences thrown onto the road to block the advance of the police.

Legislators, including Roy Kwong, 36, who is emerging as a hero for protesters in the largely leaderless movement, approached the police front line, urging them to stand down, but they were rebuked by officers who shouted aggressive orders and gestured for them to leave.

Sunday’s rally was the seventh weekend in-a-row that that people have taken to the streets en masse.  What was initially a show of opposition to the extradition bill has now morphed into an outpouring of anger over Chinese rule and shrinking freedoms.

Carrie Lam, the city’s chief executive and her government, have been unable to contain rising public anger that has now erupted into calls for democratic reforms, universal suffrage and more rights and freedoms.

The police last week warned that they were trying to track down more than 700 core protesters who they believed were behind recent violent confrontations, including the bloody clashes in a shopping centre last Sunday and the trashing of the city’s legislature, reported the South China Morning Post.

The threat may have been intended to intimidate protesters but many remain defiant, if scared.

The demonstrators who surrounded the liaison office were largely young. “The government has shown no remorse for its actions and they want to silence our voices,” said a teenager called Edgar, 16. “I don’t have any hope for my future because I have lost faith in the government.”

However, the start of the rally, which kicked off with cheers from Victoria park, represented all generations in a sign of ongoing widespread public support for the campaign’s goals.

One bold demonstrator said he had travelled from mainland China where people were using Twitter to learn about the protest movement.

Calling himself Richard, he said he was “very happy” to be joining the first protest of his life.

“I think parents and the older generation in the mainland only think about leaving their children assets, money, and property, but parents in Hong Kong want to leave greater things like democracy and freedom,” he said.

“Hopefully Hong Kong will not become like China. It should maintain its status and distance itself from the Communist government,” he said.

But despite the prolonged protests, Hong Kong’s unelected leaders have barely conceded any ground to protesters’ demands, refusing to fully withdraw the extradition bill rather than just suspend it.

Their refusal to budge has led to a stalemate with protest groups who have vowed to press ahead until their core demands are met, including the resignation of Carrie Lam, an independent inquiry into heavy-handed police tactics and an amnesty for arrested demonstrators.

The government’s response so far had been “irresponsible” and was fuelling the protests said Alvin Leung, the leader of the Civic Party at the Legislative Council.

“At the end of the day it’s a political matter and it has to be settled politically. Right now, the government is basically sending police officers to the front line to deal with the protesters anger. And this is completely wrong,” he said.

Nathan Law, a leading member of the protest movement, Demosisto, accused the government of using the police as a “suppression tool.”

“The government is refusing to listen to the demands of the people so the people have to come out because they wanted to continue the pressure,” he said.

Few see a political solution to the crisis and some have raised concerns about a deepening polarisation between pro and anti-establishment supporters in Hong Kong.

In a statement, the government accused protesters of “storming” the liaison office even though they had not entered the building. It called events in Yuen Long “completely unacceptable.”

Meanwhile, despite strong public support for the protest, tempers were fraying on Sunday as demonstrators blocked narrow roads with no warning.

One irate driver ploughed through a plastic barricade after an angry confrontation, while a van driver who tried to break through a blockaded tunnel was pulled from the vehicle and his van destroyed.

Thousands protest in Bucharest after Romanian police took 19 hours to respond to kidnapped girl’s calls

Several thousand protesters rallied in Bucharest after after Romanian police took  19 hours to respond to emergency calls of a kidnapped 15-year-old girl who has disappeared and is feared dead.

The apparent failings of the police and local authorities have sparked outrage in the country, as critics allege officials failed to take the alert seriously and reacted too late to save the teen, identified as Alexandra.

Amid chants of "incompetence" and angry calls for the government to step down, demonstrators placed flowers and candles at a makeshift memorial outside the interior ministry on Saturday evening.

A 65-year-old suspect has been taken into custody, prosecutors said Saturday, after investigators searching his home and garden discovered human remains and jewellery belonging to the girl.

The suspect insisted he was innocent and had never met the teen but failed to explain why she had used his phone, his lawyer said.

Interior Minister Nicolae Moga announced late Friday that he had sacked police chief Ioan Buda "because drastic measures are required" in the case, which has sparked a major backlash.

The girl was snatched Wednesday as she tried to hitch-hike home to Dobrosloveni in southern Romania, police said.

She called the emergency services three times on Thursday morning, telling the operators that she had been kidnapped by a man who picked her up as she hitchhiked back from a nearby town.

“He’s coming, he’s coming,” were the girl’s last words before the call ended abruptly, Buda told reporters before his dismissal.

Three buildings were searched by officers before they finally found the house where she had been held, more than 12 hours after her phone calls.

Police then sought a search warrant, which is not required in emergencies, and waited till dawn to enter the house – 19 hours after Alexandra’s last call.

Demonstrators at Saturday’s rally accused the ruling Social Democrats of weakening the criminal justice system with controversial reforms heavily criticised by Brussels.

"Why did the police not intervene earlier? Everyone needs to answer for this, from police officers and prosecutors to (Prime Minister Viorica) Dancila," protester Cristian Nan, 55, told AFP.

Centre-right President Klaus Iohannis said earlier the "resignations of all those who mishandled this case which had such dramatic consequences are obligatory".

Police believe a second teenager, whose parents reported her missing in the same area three months ago, may have been murdered by the same killer.

A$AP Rocky released from custody in Sweden pending assault trial verdict

Click:butane gas barbecue lighter

A Swedish court said Friday that US rapper A$AP Rocky should be released from custody, pending the verdict of an assault trial that has garnered global attention and stirred fan outrage.

The rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, has been in custody in Sweden since he was arrested on July 3 following a brawl in Stockholm on June 30, which saw him and his crew embroiled in a fight with a 19-year old plaintiff.

On the last day of his trial the court decided to release him, pending the verdict.

"Rakim Mayers… (and the two others accused) are no longer going to be remanded in custody," presiding judge Per Lennerbrant told the court, adding that the court’s verdict would be made available on August 14.

In response to the news, US President Donald Trump – who has followed the case closely – tweeted: " A$AP Rocky released from prison and on his way home to the United States from Sweden. It was a Rocky Week, get home ASAP A$AP!"

It wasn’t immediately clear from the decision Friday by Stockholm District Court whether the three suspects in the case could leave the country.

Prosecutor Daniel Suneson said in his closing comments that he was seeking a six-month sentence for the rapper, who himself had said earlier Friday that community service would be a proper punishment.

Mayers earlier pleaded not guilty to assault and told the court he had acted in self-defence in the brawl, which was partly captured on videos.

But prosecutor Daniel Suneson told the court in his closing arguments that the accused did not seem "scared" like he had claimed, and argued that there was never a need for self-defence.

"I don’t see how anything but prison is up for discussion," Suneson said. "The court should reach the conclusion that the assault… should have a penalty of about six months."

Considered by the court to be a "flight risk", the rapper has been held in custody since his arrest.

Fans, fellow artists and US Congress members have been campaigning for his release.

An online petition called #JusticeForRocky has garnered more than 640,000 signatures. Social media campaigns have urged fans to boycott Swedish brands such as IKEA.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly called for the rapper to be freed, drawing complaints of interference from Swedish politicians.

Officials investigate 'mysterious' death of hundreds of elephants in Botswana

Officials in Botswana are investigating the mysterious deaths of hundreds of elephants in the Okavango Delta area of the southern African nation within the past three months.

The Ministry of Environment, Natural Resources, Conservation and Tourism said Thursday that it had verified 275 carcasses of the 356 deaths that have been reported since early May.

Samples have been sent to three laboratories in Zimbabwe, South Africa and Canada for analysis. The environmental ministry said that ongoing investigations have so far “revealed no evidence of poaching.”

Natural anthrax poisoning, which killed at least 100 elephants in Botswana last year, has reportedly been ruled out as a cause of death for the elephants investigated this year.

However, Niall McCann, of the U.K.-based charity National Park Rescue, told The Guardian that experts have not been able to officially rule out poisoning or disease.

“This is a mass die-off on a level that hasn’t been seen in a very, very long time. Outside of drought, I don’t know of a die-off that has been this significant,” he said.

McCann said that sightings of other elephants walking in circles points to something potentially attacking their neurological systems.

“If you look at the carcasses, some of them have fallen straight on their face, indicating they died very quickly. Others are obviously dying more slowly, like the ones that are wandering around. So it’s very difficult to say what this toxin is,” said McCann.

The dead elephants have been all ages and both sexes, with many clustered around watering holes, according to The Guardian.

Botswana, a country home to nearly one-third of the entire African elephant population, last year lifted its years-long ban on elephant hunting.

Local communities in the nation have been advised to not tamper with the dead elephant’s tusks. While poaching has not been entirely ruled out, it has reportedly been deemed unlikely because the tusks have not been removed from the carcasses.

The Guardian noted that cyanide poisoning, a method often used by poachers in Zimbabwe, could be a possible explanation but scavenging animals do not appear to be dying near the bodies.

The COVID-19 pandemic has also been mentioned as a possible cause but is also considered unlikely, according to the outlet.

However, McCann told The Guardian that testing needs to be ramped up since there is “no precedent for this being a natural phenomenon.”

Speaking at a press conference near Ottawa, Trudeau said his government was still in touch with American officials over the summit scheduled for July 8-9, which is set to celebrate the newly-implemented United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement.

“We’re obviously concerned about the proposed issue of tariffs on aluminum and steel that the Americans have floated recently. We’re also concerned about the health situation and the coronavirus reality that is still hitting all three of our countries,” he said.

Trudeau later noted that conversations with U.S. officials included discussions on the state of the coronavirus outbreak, which has worsened in recent weeks.

The announcement comes amid reports that the U.S. is pressuring Canada to impose quotas on its aluminum exports or risk the re-imposition of a 10 percent tariff.

US pushes ahead with Taliban peace deal despite reported involvement in carrying out bounties on US troops

The U.S.’s envoy to Afghanistan signaled Saturday that Washington intends to continue pursuing a peace deal with the Taliban despite recent reports of its involvement in carrying out Russian bounties on U.S. and coalition servicemembers in the country.

Zalmay Khalilzad, who has been carrying out negotiations with the militant group and has pushed for the implementation of a peace deal signed in February, was completing a week-long trip to Uzbekistan, Pakistan and Qatar, where the Taliban negotiation team is headquartered. Khalilzad sent a series of tweets Saturday touting the economic benefits of the February agreement, saying implementing the deal would benefit all parties.

“In follow on mtg w/ the Taliban, we underscored the econ development oppts that will follow a sustainable peace. We agreed developing plans in support of peace can never start too early, assuming the 2 sides can overcome final hurdles on the path to intra-Afghan negotiations,” Khalilzad tweeted.

“Mullah Baradar and his team were engaged and the Taliban recognize all Afghans will have to make compromises in order to draw in the required investment in Afghanistan’s future,” he added, referring to the Taliban’s negotiation team.

The negotiations have taken place over the backdrop of a series of bombshell reports that detailed bounties Moscow offered the Taliban for it to carry out attacks on U.S. and coalition troops in Afghanistan, which reportedly led to the deaths of several American troops.

Kofi On Vince McMahon & Daniel Bryan Calling Him A B+ Player

As previously reported, next Tuesday’s episode of SmackDown LIVE will feature a Gauntlet Match where Kofi Kingston will be taking on Randy Orton, Sheamus, Cesaro, Rowan & WWE United States Champion Samoa Joe. According to WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, Kofi will earn a WrestleMania 35 Match against WWE Champion “The New” Daniel Bryan if he can win The Gauntlet Match.
Below is a video of Kayla Braxton talking to The New Day after this past Tuesday night’s episode of SmackDown LIVE. Braxton asked Kofi about how he is feeling when things didn’t go how he wanted them to.

“Naw, man. This is definitely a big mountain to climb, it’s definitely a big mountain to climb,” Kofi said. “But my entire career… I realized a very long time ago, that I was never going to be the guy who, ‘Oh, you look so big, let’s push him in the main event and see,’ or, ‘Oh, this guy’s got the best physique ever, let’s put him in the main event and see.’ It was always going to be the hard way. It’s been hard getting here to this point, it’s been a battle, it’s been a struggle. I’d expect it no other way to get to WrestleMania, but if this is the path that I have to take to get to WrestleMania for the WWE Championship title, I’m going to do it. I’m going to do it.”
Braxton then asked Kofi what he would say in response to Bryan & McMahon’s comments on SmackDown LIVE about him being a “B Plus Player” and not championship material. Kofi said that they were just talking and they know better, as seen below:
“They’ll say anything, right? They say anything. They know damn well I’m not a B+ player,” Kofi said. “You can call me whatever it is you want to call me, just give me that match and I’ll have to show you otherwise.”
Kofi was also asked about keeping his spirits high after having his emotions played with, while trying to prepare for The Gauntlet Match, as seen below:

“I’m not even thinking about that right now,” Kofi said. “I’m just happy that I have this opportunity. That’s the first step, that’s all that I’ve ever wanted. I told you last time, I just need a chance and if it’s going to be through 5 different Superstars, then so be it. I’ve just got to make it happen.”
Big E would chime in and talk about how Kofi has had to sacrifice and wait for 11 years, as seen below:
“We’re not waiting anymore,” Big E stated. “We’re not standing in line, we’re not standing at the door knocking, we’re not being polite anymore. We’re going to take what Kofi deserves. We’re going t take it, we’re going to push people out of the way, we’re going to knock people down, we’re going to do things we need to do. We’re still The New Day, we still have fun, but that time, we’re going to put on hold for now. We’re going to put that in the freezer, put that on ice for now, we’ll take it out again, we’ll take it out and we’ll deep thaw it now, we’ll put it in the microwave and we’ll heat it up, and when it comes time to cook, when it’s time to eat, we’ll eat now. But that nonsense, the fun and games, we’re going to put that to the side for now because now it’s time for us to take.”

Woods then agreed with Big E and said that The New Day has always had to work twice as hard to be looked at as just as good, as seen below:
“This has been what The New Day has been about, whether you can see everything we’ve been doing for the past 4 or 5 years, this is what The New Day began for,” Woods said. “To no longer take, excuse me, to no longer wait, but to take. This is a situation like we’ve seen before, many times before, where we have to do twice as much to be looked at as just as good. Please believe next week Kofi Kingston is going to prevail, he’s going to show everyone, including and most importantly Mr. McMahon, that he deserves that match at WrestleMania against Daniel Bryan. And this man right here, is going to be the next WWE Champion.”
