“Despite the fact that it includes very good labor provisions, I am voting against USMCA because it does not address climate change, the greatest threat facing the planet,” Schumer said in a statement.

“Instead of advancing global climate security by outlining binding and enforceable climate commitments from all three countries, the Trump administration provides significant incentives for manufacturers to move their business and their jobs from the U.S. to Mexico, where clean air and clean water regulations are much weaker,” he continued.

Schumer made his announcement shortly before the Senate was set to vote on the revised North American trade deal on Thursday. The measure overwhelmingly passed the upper chamber in an 89-10 vote after the House signed off on it in December following months of closed-door negotiations.

Sanders mentioned climate change as a factor in his opposition to the trade deal during Tuesday’s night’s debate, only to be cut off by the moderator who promised to address climate change later.

“But they’re the same,” Sanders.

Gillibrand called the deal a “missed opportunity to address the urgent threats we face from climate change. It fails to close loopholes for corporate polluters or set binding, enforceable standards to protect clean air and water.”

GIVE US THE DEETS: House Republicans offered new details about their plans for environmental legislation after Democrats rolled out their own sweeping proposal last week, though leadership said the move was not a response to the Democrats’ plan.

At a Thursday morning meeting first reported by The Hill, lawmakers pitched their colleagues on a variety of approaches that could be incorporated into the eventual package.

“This really I think sets the stage for our involvement not only in climate but other environmental related issues,” he said.

He said that a package, which could come out in the coming months, could include investing in research and development as well as efforts to make communities more resilient to the effects of climate change.

Thursday’s meeting follows the announcement of a broad package being developed by Democrats that requires 100 percent carbon-free electricity by 2050, a mandate that includes a clean energy credit trading system. The transportation sector would also have to be emissions free by 2050 through increasingly tight vehicle standards. 

Buildings and industry would also be required to use materials from more eco-friendly sources and meet stricter building codes under the Democratic plan.

“This is a policy conference to discuss how conservative solutions have been the greatest driver of emissions reductions in the world and how these principles are the road map for a cleaner environment here at home and around the globe,” McCarthy spokesman Matt Sparks said by email. 

Graves told The Hill that at the meeting, GOP lawmakers also talked about “concerns related to some of the proposals that have been proffered on climate” by Democrats. He cited economic factors and possible reliance on foreign fuels. 

Environmental advocates, however, criticized the Republican conference based on the party’s past record on the issues.

MICROSOFT’S CARBON PUSH: Tech giant Microsoft announced Thursday it would seek to be carbon negative by 2030.

“The world’s climate experts agree that the world must take urgent action to bring down emissions. Ultimately, we must reach “net zero” emissions, meaning that humanity must remove as much carbon as it emits each year,” the company said in a release.

“While the world will need to reach net zero, those of us who can afford to move faster and go further should do so. That’s why today we are announcing an ambitious goal and a new plan to reduce and ultimately remove Microsoft’s carbon footprint.”

The plan involves increasing its own internal carbon price while imposing it for the first time on its suppliers.

The company will also shift to renewable electricity and an all-electric vehicle fleet.

Shkodran Mustafi feels he has been unfairly singled out for criticism at times, with the Arsenal defender being forced to turn a deaf ear to his critics as he and the club seek consistency in 2020.

The German defender has become a scapegoat for those eager to point the finger of blame at Emirates Stadium.

He concedes that his standards have dipped, but concedes that “nobody makes errors because they like to”.

It could be that Mustafi opts to walk away from the spotlight in north London, amid ongoing struggles for game time and mounting transfer talk, but he remains committed to the cause for now.

He told Arsenal’s official website on the difficulties he has endured on and off the field of late: “Did I feel like a target at times? I wouldn’t say a target because it’s very hard if you say that.

“Next for me and the club is to bounce back. At the moment things are not going the way we want them to go. It’s going to be tough but I think we have the mental strength and the quality as a team to bounce back and to win the games we need to. 

“It’s a bit like it was in my situation where for me, things were not going very well. We just need to stay united as a team, a club, with our fans. The people who want the best for Arsenal, we have to stay united and bounce back together. 

“It’s the only way we’re going to improve. It’s not a time to point fingers at each other, we have to work together to bounce back and hopefully we’re going to enjoy the rest of the season.”

Mais parmi les visages les plus présents, il y a celui du jeune homme qui partage sa vie depuis trois ans, et qui répond au nom de Kamran Ahmed. Leur histoire n’a certainement pas du être facile tous les jours puisque les deux tourtereaux se seraient rencontrés à Monaco, sans pouvoir vivre ensemble: Ilona Smet vit en effet à Los Angeles après avoir parcouru plusieurs villes d’Europe, tandis que le jeune homme serait lui banquier sur le Rocher, selon les informations de Voici données en décembre dernier.

La distance n’a pas été un obstacle pour ce couple plus amoureux que jamais. La jeune femme a posté un cliché sur Instagram pour célébrer l’anniversaire de son chéri. Selon Paris Match, voilà trois ans que le couple ne se quitte plus. La jeune mannequin vit un rêve éveillé, à en croire la légende qui accompagne l’adorable photo: “Joyeux anniversaire à l’amour de ma vie. J’ai hâte de passer encore plein d’autres anniversaires à tes côtés,” a-t-elle écrit. En novembre 2014, la jeune femme de 21 ans avait confié à Gala à quel point le jeune homme était un soutien important dans sa vie :” Il m’encourage beaucoup dans ce que je fais,” avait-elle glissé. Tout est permis avec Arthur… ou presque. La justice belge vient de refuser le permis de construire de son projet immobilier. Et pour cause: il comptait détruire un manoir classé.

En 2014, Arthur quittait la France. Avec un pécule estimé à 305 millions d’euros, et sa place de 229e fortune de France, l’animateur s’est envolé, direction… la Belgique. Un pays où l’impôt sur la fortune n’existe pas.Installé depuis à Uccle, une des commune huppées de Bruxelles, il vit entouré d’autres personnalités, notamment le fils de Claude François.

Depuis, via sa société Ocean Group, la holding d’Arthur abritant ses activités, le français a essayé d’investir dans son quartier, notamment dans l’immobilier. Il faisait l’acquisition il y a peu d’un manoir, niché sur 1,5 hectare de terrain. Son projet: raser l’ensemble des bâtiments pour y construire à la place trois immeubles à appartement de 300 à 700m2 de “très haut standing avec piscine sur le toit” selon le quotidien belge Le Soir. Sans parler de la construction d’un parking couvert de 42 places.

Mais c’était sans compter l’intervention des riverains, inquiets des éventuelles nuisances sonores et visuelles que ce projet pouvait apporter à leur quartier. Et surtout, pas de chance, il s’avère que le manoir en question est en réalité l’ancienne demeure de l’architecte Adolphe Pirenne, datant de 1923 et inscrit à la liste de sauvegarde du patrimoine de la Région bruxelloise. De plus sur les 65 arbres qii devaient être abattus, une quinzaine sont considérés comme remarquables. Résultat des courses, la commission royale des Monuments et sites (CRMS) a rendu un avis défavorable à la demande de permis de construction. L’animateur et ses architectes doivent maintenant revoir leur copie à la baisse et surtout, ne pourront pas démolir le manoir.

Il ne faut pas croire toutes les rumeurs… Katy Perry l’a rappelé sur Twitter, en évoquant l’information qui a agité ses fans : son compagnon Orlando Bloom l’aurait trompée avec Selena Gomez. Une supposition que la chanteuse a démentie.

« Ne donnez pas votre énergie et votre attention à des rumeurs idiotes ». C’est en substance ce que Katy Perry a signifié à ses abonnés sur Twitter, ce vendredi 13 mai. Son compagnon Orlando Bloom était en effet ces derniers jours accusé de la tromper avec Selena Gomez. Une information qui a affolé les fans de la chanteuse, et pour cause : la semaine dernière, on apprenait que l’acteur avait envie d’épouser l’interprète de Roar. Impossible alors de l’imaginer en train de batifoler avec une autre.

Preuve de la bonne entente entre Katy Perry et Selena Gomez : cette dernière a repartagé le tweet de son aînée, comme pour en confirmer le message. La rumeur est donc complètement infondée ; les deux chanteuses sont amies, proches peut-être, mais en aucun cas ne sont-elles en concurrence dans le cœur d’Orlando Bloom. Connu comme un coureur de jupons et grand dragueur, l’acteur serait définitivement rangé de sa vie passée.

Katy Perry a toutefois profiter de l’exposition médiatique et de l’attention retenue par la rumeur de tromperie pour mettre en avant le travail de l’Unicef, avec qui collabore Orlando Bloom. Son message sur les rumeurs comprend en effet un lien vers un article dans lequel raconte son voyage en Ukraine, où il a vu combien l’éducation des enfants pouvait changer un pays. « Vous feriez mieux de lire ça », assure Katy Perry. Les nouvelles autour de l’état de santé de David Ginola se contredisent. Son entourage se voulait rassurant, hier soir, pourtant l’ex-footballeur le pronostic vital de l’ancien sportif serait « réservé ».

Hier, Nice Matin annonçait que David Ginola avait été victime d’un arrêt cardiaque, à 16h30 le jour-même, en marge d’un tournoi de golf opposant d’anciens sportifs à des chanteurs, des acteurs et des journalistes. Jean-Philippe Lustyk, présent au moment de l’accident, a raconté qu’ils avaient, au départ, cru à une blague de leur ami. « David Ginola s’est écroulé. On a pensé qu’il plaisantait. Mais au bout de quelques secondes, on a compris que c’était sérieux. Le premier, le chanteur M Pokora, a dit ‘Arrêtez, c’est grave. Il est en train d’avaler sa langue'” a-t-il relaté sur le plateau de L’Equipe 21. Le handballeur Olivier Girault et l’ancien défenseur Frédéric Mendy l’ont alors placé en position de sécurité et ont appuyé sur sa cage thoracique pour faire repartir son pouls. Il a ensuite été, selon Nice Matin, transporté par hélicoptère au centre hospitaliser Princesse-Grace à Monaco où il a été intubé et ventilé.

Nous en étions là, hier soir, quand a été publié sur le compte Twitter de David Ginola, un message amusant visant à dédramatiser la situation. « Un match de foot en plein cagnard, pas très malin. A l’hôpital, en train de faire des tests. Coupe du Monde Qatar en plein été, super idée! ». De quoi rassurer tout le monde sur son état de santé. Pourtant, il semblerait, selon les déclarations de Jean-Philippe Lustyk, le journaliste sportif précité, que la situation soit beaucoup plus inquiétante que ce tweet, dont il ne serait pas l’auteur, veut le laisser croire. En réalité, David Ginola est « dans le coma artificiel ». « S’il a été sauvé, je parle au conditionnel car la situation est dramatique, son état est stationnaire (…). Jamais David Ginola ne va pas bien, s’est-emporté le journaliste sportif, contrairement « à ce qui a été annoncé sur les réseaux sociaux par son agent notamment ». On apprend enfin, grâce à nos confrères de Nice Matin, que l’ancien footballeur de 49 ans a été opéré du coeur, très tôt ce matin et aurait subi un pontage. « Compte tenu de son âge, il y a bon espoir », précise une source au quotidien, même si le pronostic vital reste « réservé ».

Depuis leur rencontre à une réunion de militants en 2014, les deux futurs parents filent le parfait amour. La dernière fois que Vanessa s’était confiée sur son couple avec David Douillet, elle ne voulait pas se précipiter et avait confié lors d’une interview à notre magazine: « Le mariage, c’est une évidence. J’ai envie de m’engager avec lui. Pour ce qui concerne les enfants, ce n’est pas à l’ordre du jour, nous ne sommes pas pressés ». Il semblerait que la conseillère municipale de la ville de Bourg-en-Bresse ait changé d’avis.

David Douillet ajoute une petite fille à la liste de ses chérubins puisque l’ancien champion olympique est déjà le papa de Myriam, Jérémie et Christopher, nés d’un premier mariage ainsi que de Mattéo, fruit de son union avec Valérie. Sept enfants, donc, issus de quatre lits… Quelle forme olympique!
