Shompen Tribe In Greater Nicobar Island Reject Elections As India’s Southern Most Polling Booth Gets Zero Vote

For centuries the Shompen tribe in the Andaman Nicobar islands have resisted contacts with the outside world and have lived in a world of their own.

Even today the Shompen tribe lives in the Greater Nicobar Island which is off-limits to outsiders. Only those with special permissions and officers from the Tribal Welfare Department are allowed to visit the island and make contact with the indigenous people there.
